The thin film is waterproof, so spills and microorganisms stay out of your keyboard; but it is also flexible and transparent, so you'll retain the typing feeling of your keyboard and you'll be able to clearly see the keys. When grime starts to accumulate, you can clean the surface of the keyboard cap far more easily than trying to reach in between all your keys.
